Passion, people, ideas connect at Securing the Future 2014

Over 250 people represented Cincinnati USA's nonprofit companies at Xavier's Cintas Center last week during the 2014 Securing the Future conference. Attendees had the opportunity to network, talk to vendors, and hear from two keynote speakers: Paul Alofs, President & CEO of the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, and Nell Edgington, President of Social Velocity. Alofs and Edginington discussed how to attract capital through passion and how to overcome the barriers of building a comprehensive development plan.

Upon arrival at the conference, guests were asked to write down what they are passionate about and to share this passion by wearing it throughout the day. Later, attendees broke out into interactive networking sessions and were able to talk more about their passion and to better understand the successes, as well as barriers, that other nonprofit companies have faced.

In his keynote, Alofs stated that "Passion is one of the greatest gifts of the human condition," and encouraged attendees to "find the stories of passion in your organization." Alofs used a video of Led Zepplin's "Stairway to Heaven," as a teaching tool to represent how team members can feed off one another to create energy and grow passion. Throughout the conference, attendees tweeted observations, ideas, and questions to #CincySTF. A compilation of the tweets can be found here.
