“Employers First” releases training portal to aid regional employers
The Employers First Regional Workforce Network training portal is designed to assist regional employers in locating training providers and local college and university graduates quickly and easily. Employers can use the portal starting today to find training services to assist their employees or find specific certified or degreed workers for hire by searching regional educational programs and providers. Accessing the Employers First website will open the door to information not previously provided in a comprehensive method.
The Employers First website is simple to use. Just type in the type of program graduate or training you are looking for by “key word” such as “accountant.” Regional programs and educational institutions that provide information to IPEDS (Integrated Post-Secondary Data System) will populate the screen. Relevant programs and number of graduates by institution will appear for the prior academic year. Click on the “What’s This?” icon to obtain detailed information. Direct access to more specific information is immediately available to employers through the portal. According to Sherry Kelley Marshall, President/CEO of the Southwest Ohio Regional Workforce Investment Board, the Employers First Mission is “to be our regional employers’ first and best source for solutions to their workforce challenges of today and tomorrow.”
Ten years ago Workforce Investment Boards in the tri-state region recognized that their economy is regional – the workforce and employers are not restricted to working and hiring based on local workforce areas as defined by the Workforce Investment Act and respective State governments. Ten years later regionalism is generally accepted as the most effective approach for workforce and economic development.
Until now, workforce boards generally engaged the employer community through individual service approaches related to hire-ups and layoff scenarios as well as sector-based strategies designed to identify and address workforce needs of employers in similar industries or business. Now, as a more formal consortium of Workforce Investment Boards, Employers First is designed to be the regional leader in driving workforce development and economic growth in the Cincinnati USA tri-state region through development of a skilled workforce.
Through Employers First, four workforce areas will collaborate with economic development efforts to set priority industries for the region, maximizing investments in workforce development, satisfying employers’ workforce needs and matching a talent pool that meets the needs of the region’s employers.” Employers First partners include the Indiana Region 9 Workforce Board; Northern Kentucky Workforce Investment Board; Southwest Ohio Region Workforce Investment Board; and Workforce One Investment Board of Southwest Ohio. No longer will employers need to search numerous websites to locate workers or find education and training resources. They will have immediate access to a wealth of information to meet workforce needs at their fingertips.
