Gold Member: Girls on the Run celebrates 10 years

girls on the runGirls on the Run Greater Cincinnati, Inc. (GOTR), a nationally-recognized, non-profit prevention program that is inspiring girls to be healthy and confident through a fun curriculum that integrates running.

This year, GOTR is marking an impressive milestone: the organization is celebrating its 10th anniversary, and will reach its 10,000th program participant this spring season. The spring season recently kicked-off at 103 locations (area schools and community centers) across the region.

“The impact the program has made on young girls over the past decade has been incredible,” says Jo Craven, GOTR’s executive director. “We’re providing guidance at a crucial time in a pre-teen’s life, and we’ve heard first hand from our early participants what a difference our program has made in their lives.”

Since the very beginning, GOTR has provided financial assistance to over half of its participants through sponsorships, donations, and race registration. “Now, as we enter our 10th year, we’re excelling toward our goal of reaching every third through eighth grade girl with interest in the Greater Cincinnati area,” Craven says.

The 10th anniversary will be marked with many events and activities throughout 2014. On March 4, the community is invited to stop by the GOTR office between 4 -7 p.m. for an exciting event to officially kick-off the festivities. There will be an opportunity to mingle with GOTR staff, volunteers, program participants, board members, and more. GOTR has many opportunities for people to participate in the fun activities they have planned, including a special event before the May race. GOTR will also share the details of an exciting award program that will kick off soon. Finally, they’ll be food, fun, fellowship, and a chance to win some cool 10th anniversary swag.
