Leadership Action seeks candidates
Leadership Action is a hands-on leadership development experience for senior executives which focuses on designing and executing a single project capable of moving the needle on an issue of importance to the region. Each year the focus is determined by the class with the broad community priorities that have been articulated by regional organizations including the new strategic plan of the Chamber and the Bold Goals of the United Way.
Leadership Action is designed to help the participants move beyond the confines of their companies and organizations to engage in the way public policy and decision making occur in the complex environment of the community setting. That experience will be immediately valuable everyone in their current positions and help prepare a cadre of experienced and wise community leaders for the time that they will be in the top positions in their businesses and organizations.
Leadership Action is already making a difference. In August, the Cincinnati Public Schools implemented the Business-Education Connectivity Councils in three test high schools to complement the My Tomorrow initiative by CPS. The program connects prospective employers with students to make them aware of the cross section of jobs available in the regional economy. The focus is not only on jobs that require a four-year college degree, but also jobs that require associate degrees or certifications. On November 17, over 300 CPS students attended the first jointly organized Career Expo. Business people are also inviting students to shadow and are advising them on everything from job choices to resume development.
The 20 to 25 leaders admitted to the program each year are drawn from the talented ranks of local businesses and not-for profit organizations who are on the path to the highest levels of leadership in their organizations. They typically have a reputation as people who know how to “get things done.” Graduates of Leadership Cincinnati, WE Lead and C-Change are especially encouraged to apply.
Leadership Action runs from April 2016 to March 2017 (12 months). Applications for Class 3 are due February 15, 2016.
