    #ThankYourMentor Day

    Today is International Mentoring Day, and Thursday, January 19 is #ThankYourMentor Day. If you have real life mentoring experiences, this is an opportunity to thank those who helped on the path to adulthood - and beyond.

    Research shows that mentored students have better academic and attendance records, higher promotion rates/lower dropout rates, and increased levels of self-esteem. This is critical in boosting graduation numbers and creating a pipeline for colleges and universities as well growing skilled talent to fill future jobs in our region.

    Cincinnati Youth CollaborativeLocally, Cincinnati Youth Collaborative (CYC) is working to empower vulnerable children and young adults to overcome obstacles and succeed in education, career, and life. A key initiative to create a pathway to success is CYC's mentoring program. In just one hour or less a week, CYC mentors provide encouragement and guide students around speed bumps to success.

    Please #ThankYourMentor, this week – and consider becoming a mentor. There are two CYC options:

    Group Mentoring

    This program offers exceptional flexibility. A team of mentors shares the responsibility of meeting with a group of students on a regular basis. Programs vary based on mentors’ and students’ needs. Examples include:

    • After school programs like CYC Girls Club
    • Weekly community events like Saturday Hoops – basketball, physical fitness, art, food, and lots of positive role modeling, every Saturday morning, January thru May

    Worksite Mentoring

    Worksite Mentoring partners local businesses and corporations with a group of students. Programs vary based on businesses’ and students’ needs. Current worksite mentoring programs include:

    • Bringing students to the work campus once a month to focus on college access and career development
    • Bringing mentors into the schools to focus on positive role modelling and academic improvement
