Miller talks Health Care, Mandel speaks at Chamber
Mary Miller, CEO of JANCOA Janitorial Inc. testifying to Ohio Senate
Ohio State Treasurer Josh Mandel covered a lot of ground during an hour-long event at the Chamber last week. Mandel spoke at a business roundtable, addressing topics that included taxes and regulation to economic development among others.
During the roundtable, Mandel offered time for questions from those in attendance. A question about Medicaid expansion was directed to Mandel from Mary Miller, the CEO of JANCOA Janitorial Inc. Miller is also a recent graduate of the Chamber's Leadership Cincinnati class and a WE LEAD alumna.
While Mandel does not endorse further expansion of Medicaid, Miller is a strong advocate of it. She recently testified to the Ohio Senate Finance Committee in Columbus. She told the committee that if the state does not expand Medicaid, she will likely have to pay more than $1.4 million dollars to provide her nearly 350 full-time employees coverage. Miller told Currents "we are in the service industry, our employees are our product." Miller says her staff turnover is half the national average in the janitorial industry, a fact that she largely credits to the benefits she provides.
