Muñoz Brandz named to Minority Business Accelerator portfolio

Munoz BrandzThe Minority Business Accelerator (MBA), the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber’s hallmark economic-development initiative focused on growing sizeable minority firms, named Muñoz Brandz as the newest member of its portfolio.

Muñoz Brandz is the fourth Hispanic-owned firm to join the MBA’s portfolio. The company specializes in branded apparel, accessories and promotional products. It also has access to exclusive brands such as adidas, Under Armour, Cutter & Buck and Callaway.

The company was founded in 2005 and expanded into its current 8,000 square-foot facility in Blue Ash in 2009. It is owned and operated by Dianne and Anthony Muñoz, former Cincinnati Bengal and member of the NFL Hall of Fame.

The mission of the MBA is to accelerate the growth of sizable minority businesses and expand the minority entrepreneurial community, thus enabling minority-owned firms to create jobs and overall wealth for the regional economy.

The MBA works on both the supply and demand side of procurement. Through work with the MBA portfolio companies, it improves the capacity of local minority-owned businesses to serve as suppliers to corporations. Concurrently, the MBA works to secure an annual spend goal from local corporations to procure goods and services from minority-owned firms.

The MBA focuses on growing sizable minority-owned businesses based on the belief that those firms have the greatest potential to have the biggest impact on the region.

Currently, the MBA has 39 portfolio firms and 28 Goal Setters.

In 2010, the MBA secured commitments by 26 local corporations to spend $474 million in goods and services with local MBEs. The average revenue of MBA portfolio firms has grown from $6.7 million in 2004 to $19 million in 2010, an increase of 184 percent. And the total number of employees of portfolio firms has grown from 1,568 in 2004 to 3,300 in 2010, an increase of 110 percent.
