Member’s innovation revolutionizes commercial water treatment
Blue Ash-based APTech Group, recently named a finalist in the Chamber's Blue Ash Business Awards 1-50 employees category, is working to change the way commercial and industrial facility managers maintain their HVAC and "process" cooling and heating systems through its EnduroSolv® solid water treatment products. Water treatment in cooling towers, boilers and closed loop systems is a necessity due to the potential for scale, corrosion and mineral deposits within the equipment. Commercial and industrial cooling tower/boiler/HVAC system water treatment maintenance is an estimated $1 billion market in the United States.
According to APTech's CEO, Jim Heimert, the firm is growing because companies are embracing EnduroSolv® as a safer, more sustainable alternative to traditional liquid water treatment chemicals.
"Historically, this market has been served by manufacturers who produce and utilize 30 and 55-gallon drums of hazardous liquid chemical products," said Heimert. "The proprietary EnduroSolv® process allows us to mix several chemical components into one container in a solid concentrate, without the addition of hazardous liquid chemicals. The chemicals can now be applied straight from the container using dissolving equipment manufactured by another Cincinnati firm: HydroSystems."
As Heimert explains, EnduroSolv® eliminates the opportunity for spills, fumes and worker injuries from transporting and managing containers of liquid chemicals, which can weigh up to 500 pounds. By comparison, a case of four recyclable plastic bottles of EnduroSolv® weighs only 44 pounds but treats the same amount of water as a 55-gallon drum of liquids.
Additional EnduroSolv® benefits include:
- Significantly reduced shipping and handling costs
- Reduced carbon footprint
- Reduced environmental spill concerns
- Safer dispensing
- Neater, cleaner, safer mechanical rooms, leading to increased worker safety
- No need for triple washing and disposal of 55 gallon drums
The 18-employee firm's products are catching on globally: APTech now ships EnduroSolv® products to Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America, the United Kingdom, Europe, Brazil, Australia and New Zealand. The firm recently opened a manufacturing facility in the Czech Republic and a distribution facility in the United Kingdom to assist in serving European markets.
