Beckfield College paralegal program gets ABA approval

Only ABA-approved Paralegal Program in NKY

Beckfield CollegeBeckfield College's Legal Studies programs have just been granted approval from the American Bar Association (ABA). This new distinction for Beckfield College highlights the College as the only post-secondary institution in Northern Kentucky with ABA approved paralegal programs. Beckfield College is now one of only three institutions with ABA approved paralegal programs in Greater Cincinnati.

The American Bar Association (ABA) is the single-most recognized organization that promotes the highest quality legal education; promotes competence, ethical conduct and professionalism; and promotes pro bono and public service by the legal profession. Legal professionals and laypersons identify the ABA as the mouthpiece and standard bearer for the American legal system. ABA approval for any endeavor is the pinnacle of success in the legal industry. Legal professionals rely on the ABA as the gate-keeper
for quality legal education at all levels.

"The ABA certification is a major accomplishment. It is recognition of the high caliber of paralegal education which the school provides and is a credit to the faculty, staff and students of Beckfield College," commented Brian J. O'Connell, Partner at Dinsmore & Shohl in Cincinnati. "It is confirmation that the program meets the very rigorous standards that the ABA requires. Beckfield's paralegal program will be one of the few in the Northern Kentucky/Southwest Ohio area to have ABA approval."

The ABA approves programs based on the final recommendations of the ABA Standing Committee on Paralegals. The Standing Committee has a 30-year history within the ABA. Its mission is to improve the American system of justice by establishing ABA standards for the education of paralegals and by promoting attorneys' professional, effective and ethical utilization of paralegals.

Wolfer, Diane"I am so proud that Beckfield has achieved the ABA approval status," noted Diane Wolfer, President, Beckfield College. "It has been a lengthy process, but something all of our students and graduates will benefit from greatly in their careers. In the last five years, an average of 87% of our Legal Studies graduates are working in their career field or related field of choice. All past and future graduates will now be able to say they received an ABA approved education. It is an honor for a program to be approved with this distinction. Likewise, it is an honor for a student to graduate from an ABA approved program. Many law firms restrict their hiring of paralegals to those who have graduated from an ABA approved program."

"The American Bar Association approval of Beckfield College's paralegal program is very important to paralegal students and their employers in the Northern Kentucky/Greater Cincinnati area. The ABA approval is an important distinction for a paralegal program to achieve and requires a rigorous examination of the program for high quality paralegal education, training and development of educational standards," noted Dianne Kuhnell, president, Northern Kentucky Association of Paralegals. "Choosing a paralegal program with ABA approval is an important consideration for a potential paralegal student who is interested in heightening their marketability to an employer and an important consideration for an employer when comparing paralegal education of job candidates prior to hiring at a company or firm."
