Recession-born firm sees incredible growth in three years

Star Manufacturing 2Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber member, STAR Manufacturing, has quite the success story.

STAR Manufacturing is a premier control panel engineering and fabrication company, producing high quality electric and pneumatic panels, engineered and bulk tray cables and offering engineering, machining, field and installation services. Their customer sectors include the material handling, automation, food and beverage, machine tool, waste water treatment plants and construction industries.

Listo, MarioIn the middle of the recession in 2009, President Mario Listo started STAR Manufacturing in the basement of his home with just three employees. They reported $750,000 in revenue that year. In 2010, they jumped to $3 million in revenue and now, just three years later, the company is aiming for $10 million by the end of 2011, an amazing 1300% growth. STAR also saw a 9% job growth, with nearly 30 employees now at their West Chester location.

What’s their key to success? Mario Listo credits their growth to one major factor: customer service. All STAR employees value the importance of producing the best service in the business.

“There is a universal belief in taking care of the customer here,” said Dan Houchin, Sales Manager at STAR Manufacturing.

And it’s true. Listo’s success has always been built on lasting relationships with customers and an unmatched dedication to manufacturing a quality product that is always on schedule and competitively priced.

Many of Listo’s former customers have even followed him when he set out to build his own business. They believed in him from the very beginning.

“Business starts and ends with the customer,” said Listo, “the money will come after.”

A second reason for their success: great employees. Hiring during the recession gave Listo the ability to hire quality workers that had been laid off. He is proud of his employees and has created a workplace that sets them apart from the rest of the manufacturing industry.

And people are noticing. STAR Manufacturing was honored with the 2011 Cincy Manny Award for “New Job Creation”—Cincinnati Magazine’s celebration of manufacturing excellence.
