As the first Asian-American university president in Ohio, UC's Dr. Santa Ono knows plenty about the subject of diversity. Recently he took that message to Hobsons, an educational consultation business located in Blue Ash. However, had it not been for Ono's involvement in a Chamber initiative, it likely wouldn't have happened.
"I met Dr. Ono at the Chamber where we are both monthly volunteers in the Diversity by Design Work Force. His sincere passion for diversity motivated me to ask him if he would come to Hobsons and share his story to all our colleagues as part of the Hobsons MERGe (Multi-Cultural Employee Resource Group) initiative," said Daniela Locreille, Director of Student Marketing for Hobsons, a Chamber member.
Dr. Ono's presentation was titled "Leadership via a Global Experience", and he spoke about his Japanese-American background. He told the group that his own experiences have also taught him the value of building a diverse staff around him, and he boasts having more women and minorities in his cabinet than ever before in the history of UC.
"He is humble, approachable, and fun. Needless to say, many of us were truly inspired not only by his ample view on diversity and inclusion, key to today's globalized world but mostly by his natural leadership skills," added Locreille.
