71 Glier's brats in 10 minutes? Can Chestnut break Zinzinnati record
Joey “Jaws” Chestnut, one of the top-ranked competitive eaters in the world, will return to Oktoberfest Zinzinnati on Sunday, September 20, to defend his crown at the sixth annual Glier's World Brat-Eating Championship at the Christian Moerlein Glockenspiel and Bier Garten on the corner of Fifth St. & Broadway in Cincinnati, OH.
Chestnut will be vying to break the world record he set in 2013 by eating an astounding 70 brats in 10 minutes. Other top eating talent competing for the title of Glier's World Bratwurst-Eating Champion will be #21-ranked Jeff “The Beast Man” Butler, of Ohio; #23-ranked Danielle Giolia, of New York; #27-ranked “Wild” Bill Myers, of Pennsylvania and #33-ranked Matthew Raible, of Illinois.
“I was not alive when man landed on the moon,” said Major League Eating emcee Sam Barclay. “But I know where I was on September 22, 2013. I was in Cincinnati, OH, on stage with Joey Chestnut as he downed his World Record 70th bratwurst in 10 minutes. My sense of awe and wonder in that moment remains unmatched. He, Chestnut, is my Armstrong."
More than 80,000 bratwurst are consumed at Oktoberfest Zinzinnati each year. If placed end-to-end they would equal the length of 29 Empire State Buildings. The event will be held Sunday, Sept. 20, at 5 P.M. For more information and a schedule of events, visit www.OktoberfestZinzinnati.com.
