Chamber comments on DOL's proposed overtime rule
The Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber, as a business organization representing companies of all sizes and multiple industries, submitted comments to the U.S. Department of Labor earlier this month recommending that the Department postpone a proposed regulation raising the threshold for those eligible for overtime pay from a yearly salary of $23,660 to $50,440.
While the Chamber shares in the common goal of fairness to the American worker, the Chamber concluded that the overtime proposals are unnecessary and are an incredible overreach affecting businesses and employees. Ultimately, the Chamber does not believe that changing a successful system, in place since 2004, is in the best interest of the business community. Overtime expansion would add to employers’ costs, undermine customer service, hinder productivity, generate more litigation opportunities, and ultimately harm job creation.
