Cincy takes Columbus
Last week, Chamber members and staff traveled to Columbus for a day of government advocacy. Our delegation began the day with a breakfast reception with members of the 131st Ohio General Assembly, offering a chance for Chamber members and legislators to interact informally and share thoughts and ideas. After attending a House session at the Statehouse, members were joined at lunch by Senate President Keith Faber, Scott Miller, President of Gongwer News Service, House Speaker Cliff Rosenberger, and House Minority Leader Fred Strahorn. Chamber members were prepared with questions on many topics for our elected officials, including the capital budget, education, and healthcare. Faber, Miller, Rosenberger, and Strahorn encouraged members and the Chamber to continue meeting with and contacting elected officials so that the voice of Cincinnati USA will be heard.
The day closed with an in-depth presentation from Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel on OhioCheckBook.com. OhioCheckBook.com serves as the State of Ohio's check register, allowing all visitors to see how state dollars are spent. The website tracks all spending, from a $2 purchase for a pack of pencils to a million dollar purchase for capital equipment. Many cities, counties, and school districts throughout Ohio are adopting this technology, including Hamilton County. You can view government spending for Hamilton County here.
