Agenda 360 invites you to participate in the Green Umbrella Energy Challenge

Program goal to reduce homeowner energy cost, lower energy use across the region

Energy ChallengeGreen Umbrella, in partnership with the Greater Cincinnati Energy Alliance, launched the Green Umbrella Energy Challenge last week. The Energy Challenge is a friendly competition amongst Green Umbrella member organizations designed to engage the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky community in reducing its energy use. One of Green Umbrella's stated goals is to lower energy usage 15% throughout the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky region by 2020. The Green Umbrella Energy Challenge will help the region meet this goal.

Participating Green Umbrella member organizations and businesses, including the Chamber's Agenda 360, are educating their members, employees, and partners about the Energy Alliance's Home Performance with Energy Star program. This program offers discounts on energy assessments, subsidies on installed energy improvements, access to loans, and quality assurance on local contractors. To measure the impact, Green Umbrella and the Energy Alliance have developed an Energy Challenge web portal to track the energy savings that each Green Umbrella organization creates. Progress reports will be provided tracking the total number of energy efficiency upgrades and identifying the top performing member organizations. The competition challenges member organizations to reach the most members and create the largest energy impact.

For a limited time, the Greater Cincinnati Energy Alliance is offering the following to help make energy improvements more accessible to you:

    • Reduced cost whole home energy assessments
    • Up to 50% off to help make home energy improvements affordable
    • Access to a low-interest loan
    • Access to a network of trained and approved contractors and installers¬†

"We are really excited to promote this challenge among our 150 business and nonprofit member organizations to help more people save more energy and money throughout the region," stated Brewster Rhoads, Executive Director of Green Umbrella. The Energy Challenge is a demonstration of how the collective action of Green Umbrella's members can have an impact on lowering regional energy use.

"The Energy Alliance is proud to partner with Green Umbrella on this unique initiative to reduce energy consumption across the region," commented Andy Holzhauser, Executive Director of the Energy Alliance. "Our Home Performance with Energy Star program not only improves homeowners' lives, but it helps the entire Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky area by reducing pollution and investing in our local economy," he stated.

Green Umbrella will recognize the top energy saving organizations and celebrate the overall impact of the Energy Challenge during their May 2013 Sustainability Summit. For more information about the Green Umbrella Energy Challenge please visit
