Chamber’s Minority Business Accelerator Adds Northern Kentucky University as Goal Setter

Addition means region’s four largest colleges have all joined MBA’s ranks, group looks to top record-setting minority spend mark

CINCINNATI—August 28, 2014 —The Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber’s Minority Business Accelerator (MBA) today announced the addition of Northern Kentucky University to their current portfolio of Goal Setters. Goal Setters are local corporations and nonprofit organizations that commit to an annual spend goal with a diverse group of suppliers.

Earlier this year, it was announced that in 2013, 36 Goal Setters spent $1.04 billion with local minority-owned companies, the highest-level in the MBA’s 11-year history.

NKU’s pledge brings the number of current MBA Goal Setters to 41, after both the Port of Greater Cincinnati Development Authority and Skanska USA joined in early June.

Additionally, NKU becomes the fourth regional academic institution to join the MBA as a Goal Setter along with Cincinnati State Community & Technical College, Miami University, University of Cincinnati, and Xavier University.

“We are proud to join the Minority Business Accelerator Goal Setter program,” said Geoffrey S. Mearns, President, Northern Kentucky University. “NKU values inclusion in all of our endeavors, including our procurement. Today’s announcement is another example of our commitment to inclusiveness as one of the university’s core values.”

“The addition of NKU as a Goal Setter is further proof of their growth as an institution and their commitment to the communities they serve,” said Crystal German, Vice President of Economic Inclusion for the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber. “Together, we will be increasing the amount of business exposure we receive from both sides of the Ohio River,” German added.
