Chamber’s Minority Business Accelerator Adds Three Portfolio Firms, Two Goal Setters
Former Cincinnati Bengal’s company, Port Authority among groups added to nation’s premier accelerator

 

CINCINNATI—June 5, 2014 —The Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber’s Minority Business Accelerator (MBA) today announced the addition of three local corporations to the organization’s current portfolio of 34 companies, ensuring those minority owned-enterprises the MBA’s assistance with working with larger companies of substance.  

Additionally, two new MBA Corporate Goal Setters were unveiled today, joining the ranks of 37 regional organizations that have pledged a significant commitment to using a diverse group of suppliers.

Joining the MBA as Portfolio Companies are K-COR, LLC, PAK/TEEM Acquisition Company, Inc., and Business Technical Services, LLC. 

  • K-COR is a specialty subcontractor located in Sharonville who specializes in the installation of reinforcing steel, post-tensioning cables and mesh for hotels, convention centers, hospitals, parking garages, waste treatment plants, sports stadiums and other commercial projects.  Led by former Cincinnati Bengals Linebacker Kevin Walker (1988-1992) as President & CEO, the company features skilled project managers, field superintendents and qualified tradesmen with work with the highest degree of safety and quality.
  • PAK/TEEM Acquisition Company, Inc., led by President & CEO Icy Williams, provides a unique blend of engineering, design and fabrication of equipment to capture, contain, collect and convey dust/aerosols generated from various manufacturing processes. Started 25 years ago, the Woodlawn-based company has been recognized as a dust control technology leader particularly in the area of containment at the source that delivers to its customers innovations and cost competitiveness.  Additionally, Williams served on the MBA Leadership Council from 2004-2009. 
  • Business Technical Services, LLC is an infrastructure support company run by President & CEO Jim Vickers that is located in Lincoln Heights and specializes in pipeline integrity management. BTS provides comprehensive services in the areas of: pipeline surveys, high-consequence area surveys, industrial coating applications, pipeline maintenance and repair, vegetation management, atmospheric corrosion surveys related to bridge pipeline crossings, and above-ground/below-ground storage tank repair.

“These three portfolio additions are not only examples of the measured growth of our MBA, but represent strong minority advancement in manufacturing, one of our region’s most significant industry sectors,” said Crystal German, vice president of the MBA and economic inclusion at the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber. 

“Winning together has always been one of our core values at K-COR,” said Kevin Walker, President & CEO of K-COR, LLC.  “When we launched in 2011, it was important for us to always build and maintain mutually beneficial relationships as we grew our company. Joining the MBA will take K-COR to the next level and expose us to an array of companies which will allow us access to greater economic opportunity,” Walker added. 

German also announced that the Port of Greater Cincinnati Development Authority and Skanska USA joined the MBA as Corporate Goal Setters.

  • The Port of Greater Cincinnati Development Authority is an economic development agency that initiates projects to improve property value and promote job creation throughout Hamilton County.
  • Skanska USA is one of the largest and most financially-sound construction and development companies in the U.S. serving a broad range of industries including healthcare, education, government, aviation, transportation, power, energy and commercial.

“Economic Inclusion is a core value in the work we do, with more than a decade of experience supporting minority-owned, women-owned, and small businesses. Joining the MBA is a natural extension of our significant efforts already in place,” said Laura Brunner, President and CEO of the Port of Greater Cincinnati Development Authority. “The MBA has quickly become known as a leader nationwide in the minority accelerator space, and we are excited to join the other Goal Setters in this commitment.” Brunner added.

“Skanska’s participation adds one of the world’s largest construction firms to our team while the Port Authority’s commitment expands the MBA’s collaboration with the region’s public sector economic initiatives, both are significant additions,” added German.

The 2014 Annual Stakeholder meeting next week will highlight the significant 2013 achievements of the MBA and also reveal a new significant milestone of success recently achieved by the region.  Media is invited to attend this invitation-only event: Wednesday, June 11, 2014 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at The Phoenix, 812 Race Street, Cincinnati.
