Local Council Salutes 2015 Whitney M. Young Jr. Service Award Honorees

Cincinnati, Ohio (03/06/2015) — Dan Beard Council, Boy Scouts of America, will recognize four outstanding honorees during the 2015 Whitney M. Young Jr. Service Award Dinner on Thursday, March 19, at the Scout Achievement Center in Evendale from 7p.m. – 8:30p.m.

Honorees for the 2015 Whitney M. Young Jr. Service Award Dinner include Total Quality Logistics; Jason Dunn, Cincinnati USA Convention & Visitors Bureau; Crystal German, Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber; and Joseph Waller, PricewaterhouseCoopers.

The objective of this ceremony is to raise funds to support OutREACH efforts in the Dan Beard Council and to recognize an individual or company for its involvement in helping create a better environment for low income or rural neighborhoods. This is in fulfillment of Dr. Young’s dream of justice and equality.

Dr. Whitney M. Young, Jr., became the executive director of the National Urban League in 1961, serving until his death. Under his leadership, the National Urban League grew exponentially, even co-sponsoring Dr. King’s historic March on Washington. Dr. Young fought for equal employment, improved housing and better education for African Americans; he counseled Presidents Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon. He also received the nation’s highest civilian award in 1968.

The annual service award dinner is in its fourth year and is expected to attract over 100 guests, including local Scouts to participate in the program. The honorable Nadine Allen will be the guest speaker for the event and WLWT-TV News 5 Anchor/ Reporter, Courtis Fuller, will be the master of ceremonies.

The Dan Beard Council prepares more than 30,000 youth to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Scouting provides a program for young people that builds character, trains them in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and develops personal fitness.
