Committees

The Chamber has a number of volunteer committees who review, address and take action in the following areas of focus:

  • The Policy & Ballot Issues Committee evaluates local and state public policy referenda that can be enacted or cancelled by direct popular vote. The Committee monitors possible ballot issues and convenes to evaluate those issues deemed most important for businesses and the Chamber.

  • The Health Care Committee provides policy direction to the Chamber on issues related to health, surfaces ideas for health related service that the Chamber may be able to provide to its members, and works to introduce the concept of best practices in both the health and wellness arena.

  • The Energy & Environment Committee provides commentary and insight on federal, state and local environmental legislation and regulations. In 2010, the Committee will focus on CO2 control policies, related energy issues and local implementation of Cincinnati's Environmental Justice Ordinance.

  • The Transportation Committee focuses on a number of federal, state and local issues. In 2010, these will include the reauthorization of six-year federal transportation legislation, the restart of passenger rail in Ohio and the rebuild if I-75 through Hamilton County.

  • The Tax & Finance Committee meets on an "as needed" basis. It usually works in tandem with the Policy & Ballot Issues Committee, since much of that Committee's work includes public spending. T&F provides context and insight on the merits of various public financing proposals important to area businesses.

  • The Education & Workforce Development Committee provides commentary and insight on issues pertaining to employment, training and workforce development. In 2010, the Committee will review immigration legislation, a "jobs bill" stimulus proposal and reathorization of the Workforce Investment Act.
