CIO Roundtable’s 4th annual IT Intern Summit
The CIO Roundtable recently hosted the 4th annual IT Intern Summit on June 24th, in conjunction with the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber. The Roundtable is a collaborative of the senior IT executives from the region’s 30 largest IT organizations, most of them Fortune 1000 companies, spanning virtually every sector. The 2021 event was led by GE Aviation, CareSource, INTERalliance, Great American Insurance Group, Western & Southern Financial Group, the Chamber and The Cincinnati Insurance Companies.
Almost 250 interns from across the region attended and participated in sessions ranging from cybersecurity to data and analytics and a keynote presentation Devon Valencia, CIO at CareSource. Again this year, the Roundtable made a philanthropic donation on behalf of the intern class. This year’s recipient, voted on by the attendees, was the Freestore Foodbank. The Foodbank recently broke ground on a new facility in Sedamsville that will include a distribution center and a workforce training center.
“When we created this event 4 years ago, our primary objective was to create a sense of community among this broad group of students spanning 30+ employers, 60+ schools, with hometowns all over the country/globe. We want them to see what a vibrant IT community we have here in our Region – the breadth and depth of career opportunities here. As we recover from the pandemic, now more than ever, talent has a choice in where they decide to work. We are proud of the diversity of our industries and the remarkable innovation featured by our member companies.” said Geoff Smith, Co-Chair of the CIO Roundtable.
For the second year in a row, the event was virtual and had attendees from all across the country – spanning over 60 schools.
“As we’ve adapted to the pandemic, many organizations are accustomed to hosting events online, but as we know, audience engagement is more critical than ever” said Christina Misali, Sr. Leader Talent Connections at the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber. “It was key for us to keep the content dynamic and feature a variety of roles that are top of mind for today’s up and coming talent. Thanks to Austin McDole (GE Aviation) and the Event Planning Team’s leadership, we were able to gather multiple perspectives and depths of experience with the speakers. This enabled us to connect with our diverse audience, from high-school through college graduates. One attendee remarked ‘Getting exposure to high-up professionals and learning about their experience is extremely valuable for those transitioning from school to the workforce’ which reinforces the Chamber’s strategic goal of expanding our talent base in the region.”
The CIO Roundtable is no stranger to strategic partnerships as it relates to building our talent pipeline. They have a long history including working with the region’s universities, K-12 school systems, INTERalliance, Apprenti Cincinnati, funding scholarships, high school student outreach programs and more.
On November 9th, the CIO Roundtable will host its annual Symposium for senior IT Leaders in our Region. All proceeds from the IT Symposium are re-invested into our Region’s Tech Talent Pipeline, supporting events like the IT Intern Summit and other talent initiatives.
