From the Desk of Jill Meyer

Throughout the next several days, in partnership with Cincinnati Compass, we’re excited to recognize and participate in Welcoming Week — a dedicated week during which our nation celebrates immigrant, refugee, and international communities. The theme this year is, ‘Creating Home Together.’ Cincinnati Compass is a collaborative project of the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber, City of Cincinnati, University of Cincinnati and more than 65 community partners who believe that immigrants and refugees are key contributors to a strong regional economy and a diverse, vibrant community.
The Cincinnati region has a growing community of immigrants. In fact, between 2014-2017, 98% of the net population growth was attributable to immigrants. This is good news for our community — with an aging workforce, we need more people coming to the region. According to an annual report from New American Economy that assesses metro area’s efforts at welcoming and supporting new Americans, Cincinnati ranks 15th in the country among metro areas. And so, as part of Welcoming Week, we want to recognize the contributions of our immigrant residents and shine a spotlight on how immigrants are strengthening the economic prosperity our region.  Each day this week, we will highlight and feature someone with an immigrant, refugee, or international background and share how their influence has made a positive impact in our community. Learn more about this series and help us amplify their stories and your own story by using the hashtags #WelcomingWeek and #CreatingHomeTogether.

In the spirit of celebrating, don’t forget about Oktoberfest Zinzinnati® In Za Haus. Join us September 18-27 as continue to zelebrate German immigrants and their influence our community.
